“We Have To Have Patience”

Patience is a wonderful thing and a virtue if you’re able to do it.  In today’s world I feel patience is becoming harder and harder to obtain because we are accustomed to having everything done at our fingertips (and dare I say, especially us New Yorkers).

At my cousin’s daughter’s birthday party, Natalie (who’s Vera’s daughter from Lady and the Blog), was trying to catch fireflies.  Having caught one, she was walking around showing everyone.   Well of course the firefly ended up flying off her hand and up into roof of the outdoor patio.  Natalie’s response?  “We have to have patience until he comes down.”

And then for everything that night she couldn’t instantaneously do, her response was, “We have to have patience.”

I chuckled every time I heard it because I never heard a five-year-old have such patience!  When I asked where did she get this from, Vera told me her school.

I think it’s fabulous that kids learn such a valuable tool so young.  It will really be put to the test later in their lives.

As an adult, I find my patience fluctuates given the specific situation, so maybe I should take a lesson from the five-year old!
